County Government Outstanding Service Award Recipients Named for 2nd Quarter 2008

Cherokee County government officials recently announced the recipients of the Outstanding Service Awards for the second quarter of 2008.

MUG Brenda FlowersThe Outstanding Service Award was presented to Brenda Flowers, database administrator in Information Technology (IT) Services.

Employed by the county for one year, Flowers "has made quite an impact with her work ethic and desire to get a job done," the awards announcement stated.

"She is very knowledgeable, skilled and is commended for her hard work on the Metatomix Project," the announcement said. "This project facilitates data sharing between all of criminal justice and has dramatically decreased data entry, which in turn saves the County money."

 

Above & Beyond Awards were presented to District Attorney's Office Investigator Tracy Wallace and Deputy Rodney Burley of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office courthouse security. Both men were recognized for actions that saved lives.

MUG Tracy WallaceWallace, an employee of the District Attorney's office since February 2006, is "a very hard worker, dependable, team player and well liked by his peers and everyone he comes in contact with," the announcement said.

On April 11, Wallace "walked into the office to find a fellow co-worker gasping for breath, choking and in dire need of assistance. Without hesitation and literally dropping everything in his arms, Tracy began performing the Heimlich Manuever."

"The co-worker is alive and well, thanks to Tracy," the statement said.

 

MUG Rodney BurleyBurley, an employee in the Sheriff's Office since July 2002, "is very friendly, courteous and dedicated employee and deputy sheriff," known for greeting visitors and county employees at the Justice Center in Canton with his "smile and pleasant disposition," the announcement said.

Burley was nominated for the award because he jumped into Lake Allatoona and saved a child's life, the announcement said. The incident occurred as Burley joined a co-worker and his son on the lake and the child, who was wearing a life jacket, fell off the boat into the frigid water.

He "didn't hesitate to jump in freezing water and to get the child to safety."

 

Other nominees for the second quarter awards included Susan Caldwell of the Animal Shelter; Cheri Collette, Fire Department; Babette Davis, Fire Department; Alice Fennell, E-911; Ray Hendrix, Parks and Recreation; Freda Jackson, E-911; Dana McPherson, Fire Department; Melissa McArthur, E-911; Irene Mumper, Building Department; Thomas Pinyon, Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad; and Camille Thomas, Parks and Recreation.
