Woodstock Police Chief Ric Moss has resigned from the top law enforcement position in Cherokee County's largest city.
Woodstock Police Department Chief Ric Moss has resigned from the post he has held for two years, Woodstock City Manager Jeff Moon announced Wednesday.
“After discussing the future of the department, Chief Moss and I have different views on the future direction of the department” Moon said in a prepared statement, adding Moss will be retained for a period of time on a consulting basis.
Moss moved to Georgia from Florida, and reportedly has sought to return to law enforcement positons in the state. His stint in Woodstock has generated controversy over personnel, management style and other issues.
Moss will continue to assist in the department complete several projects, but others will provide oversight until a new chief is named, said Moon, who has served as city manager since last spring.
Moon's announcement said an interim police chief "is expected to be named by early next week."
Moon and Woodstock Mayor Donnie Henriques will provide positive opinions on Moss, Moon said.
“It is not uncommon for new city managers to effect changes in personnel and Ric’s departure in no way suggests the chief is anything but a competent professional who was a valuable employee and contributed to the future of the city," Moon said. "Both the mayor and I are providing the chief with a positive recommendation and we expect that he will be successful in pursuing other opportunities.”
