June 9, 2008 – WLJA FM 101.1 won the top award at this weekend’s GABBY Awards from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters.
WLJA FM…owned and operated by Byron Dobbs and Randy Gravley is now in its 10th year and was named by their peers as the Top Class A Radio Station in the State of Georgia.
In addition, Byron Dobbs was inducted into the Georgia Broadcasters Hall of Fame…a very elite group of radio personalities and owners who will be enshrined at the Georgia Hall of Fame at the University of Georgia in Athens. Two others were inducted into the Hall of Fame. They were well-known R&B singer and radio station owner the late James Brown, and Atlanta Braves TV sportscaster and former Major League player Ernie Johnson, Sr.
WLJA also picked up several other awards. Michael Searcy was honored for 2 locally produced commercials….”Bubba Q Christmas” and “’Ol Duke”.
WLJA’s owners also received the Best Community Service Award, in conjunction with their Toys for Tots Campaign and a big trophy for its support of the troops and the Georgia Army National Guard.
WLJA FM, in a 5 station mandated changed by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) recently changed their dial location from 93.5 to 101.1.
Their studios are in Jasper, but their coverage area includes Cherokee, Pickens, Gilmer and 18 other counties in North Georgia.
