A new program for promoting long-term environmental sustainability at the local level has been launched by the Cherokee Recreation & Parks Agency (CRPA). The Cherokee Environmental Sustainability Initiative (CESI) seeks to educate and inspire the Cherokee County community to participate and learn more about sustaining the local environment.
The first participant in CESI was Mom's Club of Woodstock South. Addressing the loss of tree cover, which promotes cleaner air and temperature modulation, a group of adults and children from the club planted a black gum tree in the Valley playground in J.J. Biello Park on May 5. The tree was donated by Autumn Hill Nursery. A plaque recognizing the donors will be displayed at the site.
