Two employees of the KFC at Ga. 92 and Bells Ferry Road were arrested Monday after allegedly stealing money from the fast food restaurant and concorting a false story of an armed robbery, according to Sgt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
A restaurant assistant manager, Siedah Chavon Chaney, 20, of Acworth, left, told authorities she left the restaurant Monday morning to make a bank deposit and was robbed as she was leaving at gunpoint by a Hispanic male and a white male, Baker said.
Chaney claimed the men she described fled in a tan pickup, Baker said.
Sheriff's Office detectives started an investigation after deputies responded to the reported August 25 armed robbery and arrested the two employees less than six hours later, Baker said.
Restaurant Manager Tracie Nillita Chambers, 37, of Austell, left, and Chaney alleged made up the story about the armed robbery and kept the money they reported as stolen, Baker said.
"The money was located in the trunk of Chaney's vehicle," Baker said.
Both women were charged with conspiracy to commit theft by taking, false report of a crime and theft by taking, Baker said. Both are being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a bond of $23,910, he said.
