MUG Matthew Gantz cherokee high drama teacher arrested

Matthew Gantz, 41, of Canton, has been charged with sexual assault of two former Cherokee High School students.

The Cherokee High School drama teacher facing charges of sexual assault against a student has been charged with additional charges after a second former student has stepped forward to tell authorities she also is a victim.

Matthew Gantz, 41, of Canton, is charged with three additional counts of sexual assault of a person in custody after the new victim told authorities she had a sexual relationship with the teacher in 2005, said Sgt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

Gantz was arrested last Friday by Sheriff's Office detectives. Gantz was initially charged with two counts of sexual assault of a person in custody after a student alleged he sexually assaulted her in 2007 when she was 17. Gantz was also charged Friday with one count of tampering with evidence, Baker said.

Gantz is being held in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $60,000 bond, Baker said Tuesday.

Gantz has been the Cherokee Warriors men's varsity soccer coach. Cherokee High is in Canton.
