August 25th, 2009 - Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a tubing accident this afternoon at approximately 4:45 on Lake Allatoona, near the Little River Marina, off Bells Ferry Road. According to an eye-witness, a 24 year old female was tubing when the accident occurred. Apparently, a boat was pulling the inner tube when it hit some rocks throwing the victim head first into the water and striking the rocks. According to Brian Cowart, a paramedic with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, the accident happened several hundred yards from shore and emergency service personnel traveled by boat to reach the victim. When they arrived at the accident scene, the female was totally unresponsive and combative. The victim was transported by boat to shore and placed in an ambulance. Cowart also said that the victim had severe head trauma and severe trauma to her lower extremities. She was later transported by life flight helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition. Officials with the Department of Natural Resources are investigating the cause of the accident at this time.
