Early voting for the November 4 General Election started September 22 for registered Cherokee County voters.
Under Georgia law, in-person voting at county elections headquarters throughout the state starts 45 days before Election Day. The final day for early voting is the Friday before Election Day. Voters don't have to provide a reason for voting early.
The Cherokee County Elections & Voter Registration Office is located at 400 East Main Street in Canton. Voting hours are weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The September 22 start for voting in-person or by mail is a change in the law approved by the Georgia General Assembly that will making voting a easier process, Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel said.
"Georgia will experience large voter turnout in the November General Election," Handel said. "This change in the law gives voters more options to cast their ballot and will ease wait times on Election Day."
Voters can request a mail-in ballot or vote early in-person through Friday, October 31.
All mail-in ballots must be received no later than 7:00 p.m. by the county registrar on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4. Photo identification is not required when voting by mail. To download a mail-in ballot request form, visit http://www.sos.georgia.gov/ElectionCenter.
