A Cherokee High School teacher was arrested Friday by Cherokee County Sheriff's Office detectives after a former student alleged he sexually assaulted her.
Drama teacher Matthew Gantz, 41, of Canton, is charged with two counts of sexual assault of a person in custody and one count of tampering with evidence, said Sgt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
"The victim reported the assaults began 2007 when the victim was 17 years old," Baker said.
Gantz is listed on the Cherokee High Web site as the Cherokee Warriors men's varsity soccer coach. Cherokee High is in Canton.
Gantz is being held at the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Adult Detention Center with a $33,300 bond.
Baker said the investigation is continuing and more charges are possible.
