The ribbon cutting ceremony for Canton's Burge Park, which had a major makeover with participation from volunteers and businesses, is scheduled for Thursday morning.

Widely known as Crisler Park, Burge Park is a success story for the city's Playful City USA committee, which planned for the park's enhancements for more than one year, according to an announcement on the government's Web site, www.canton-georgia.com.

The ceremony is slate for August 28 at 11 a.m. at the park located off Crisler Street.

The project received a boost in May as Canton Councilwoman Pat Tanner successfully ensured that $5,000 in sales tax funds were made available for starting the project, the announcement states.

Canton's Playful City USA committee organized the day-long effort on July 24 that resulted in new fences, tables garden beds, barbeque grills and play equipment being installed by 125 volunteers in the park, the announcement stated. Children, ages 4 through 12, joined in the work day that reportedly lasted from 7 a.m. to past 5 p.m.
