Drug awareness classes offered by the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners are scheduled for late September and early October.
The County Commission has been working with Price Consulting and Training LLC (PCT) to provide methamphetamine awareness and substance abuse training for the public.
PCT President Phillip Price is recognized internationally as an expert in this area and has taught methamphetamine-related courses to several law enforcement agencies and other government agencies, including the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education for the University of Georgia, and the American College of Medical Toxicology, officials said.
In addition to methamphetamine, the classes will provide an understanding of the process of addiction, the effects of substance abuse on the body and the social consequences, and will provide information about dealing with addicted members of the community. Parents will be provided information about current substance abuse trends and tips on spotting budding abuse in children.
The classes are open to everyone and are free. No registration is required.
The first class will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 29 in the Creekview High School Auditorium, 1550 Owens Store Road, Canton.
The second class will be held on Tuesday, September 30 at 7 p.m at the Cherokee County Community Services Center, 1190 Evenflo Drive, Canton.
The third and fourth classes will be held at the Cherokee County South Annex, 7545 North Main St., Woodstock. The third class will be Friday, October 3 at 7 p.m. and the fourth class will be on Wednesday, October 8 at 7 pm. Parents of middle school and high school age children are encouraged to attend this informative training.
