Families are invited to attend the Funk Heritage Center's 5th annual Georgia History Timeline on Thursday, October 9, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The popular living history program uses professional interpreters to tell the story of Georgia's past. Family Night will be held in the Bennett Museum at the Funk Heritage Center on the Reinhardt College campus in Waleska.

The cost is $10 per person. Reservations are not required for Family Night. Many parents who home school their children enjoy coming to the Family Night, officials say.

Visitors will see professional interpreters including well-known Florida Creek Indian Jim Sawgrass, General James Oglethorpe portrayed by Scott Hodges, and Hernando de Soto portrayed by Doug Pummell. They will present programs, interact with visitors and also be available for candid photographs.

The Georgia History Timeline is a one-of-a-kind program which has received praise from educators throughout northwest Georgia, officials say.

Dr. Joseph Kitchens, executive director of the Funk Heritage Center, said, “How often can you spend an evening with historical characters who will take you back through time to learn about the history of Georgia? Regardless of your age, you will enjoy this unique experience.”

Georgia History Timeline daytime tours for school groups are will be held October 8, 9, and 10 in the Appalachian Settlement at the Funk Heritage Center. Thousands of children attend the event for school field trips each year. Advanced reservations are required for school groups.
