Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services Fire Safety Educator Babette Davis visited a classroom at Creekview High School on Monday to talk about her husband's deployment to Afghanistan.
After Babette Davis spoke about her husband Cecil Davis, the students were asked to write a letter to him, said Tim Cavender, spokesman for Cherokee Fire-ES.
Cecil Davis is a Cherokee County firefighter who was first deployed May 31 to Ft. Riley, Kan., where he completed a three-month course to become a certified Combat Advisor, Cavender said. He was assigned to Afghanistan in August to assist U.S. troops as well as train the Afghan army and is also a combat medic, Cavender said.
A Navy veteran who served as a corpsman in Cuba during Desert Storm, Cecil Davis has been in the U.S. Army National Guard for 5 years.
Lisa Kennedy, the teacher who invited Babette Davis to visit her class, instructed her students on how to format a letter to Mr. Davis, Cavender said, adding they were later asked to write a letter to Staff Sgt. Davis as part of their classroom assignment.
