Etowah High's Air Force JROTC collected more pints of blood in last year's blood drives than any school in metro Atlanta, said Col. Charles Slater, commander of the Etowah High program.
Parents from the Etowah AFJROTC Booster Club represented the school Tuesday at the 2008 American Red Cross Southern Region Sponsor and Recognition Luncheon in Atlanta, Slater said.
The AFJROTC received the top High School Category honor for the largest number of pints collected out of all schools with 751-1,000 eligible students.
The collection efforts by the school's AFJROTC were significant, Slater said.
"In fact," Slater said, "we collected a total of 607 usable pints, which surpassed any size school in the Atlanta metropolitan area. This was also the seventh straight year in which Etowah has won this prestigious award."
Slater said the program continues to make a considerable contribution for meeting the region's blood needs.
"We are once again off to a great start with 198 pints collected during last week's drive."
