Report: Almost 37,200 Students in Cherokee Schools

The 15-day enrollment count for the Cherokee County School District reached 37,184 students as the school system's third full week of the 2008-2009 academic year ended.

The student population growth for Day 15 represented a gain of 35 students over Day 10's 37,149 students, a 2.5 percent increase above the last year's Day 15, Cherokee County School Superintendent Frank Petruzielo's office reported.

The office reported 1,099 students have enrolled in the school system since the year began August 4 with 36,085 students. Day 15 was August 22.

This year's Day 15 count was 914 students over last year's Day 15 count of 36,270 students, school system data shows.

School system officials said they expected before the 2008-2009 year began that the total enrollment to reach 37,413 students, an increase of 3.13 percent over the last year’s 36,276.
