Appalachian Technical College interiors students will partner for the second consecutive year with Bent Tree Tour of Homes, college officials recently announced. The 2008 Tour of Homes is slated for Saturday, September 13.

“This is an excellent opportunity for future interior designers to receive valuable working experience,” said Interiors Program Instructor Ginger Burton.

The students have focused their design skills on the home of Keith and Roseanne Knight, hosts of the Appalachian Tech Design Home for the 2008 Tour of Homes.

“For their spring quarter project, students analyzed the space and design requirements, created innovative solutions and presented their ideas to the homeowners,” Burton said.

“The students have done an outstanding job incorporating their ideas with the lifestyle of the homeowners,” said Judy Siling, chairperson of this year’s event.

Students will be on site during the tour to answer questions and demonstrate the progression of their work for guests.

When touring this featured home, guests will enjoy seeing the stamp of the students work around every corner, officials said. “However, as with every good designer, the students hope it will be the lifestyle and interests of the homeowners that is truly showcased,” Burton said.

The students are creating interesting displays of Mr. Knight’s wood crafts and the couple’s unique pottery collection; key elements will be placed to highlight the family’s entertaining style as it complements the mountain setting; and the students hope most of all to complete the seamless transition between comfortable living, natural architecture, and glorious views, officials said.

Tickets for the 2008 Bent Tree Tour of Homes are $12 in advanced tickets and $14 the day of the tour. Tours will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive by noon to tour the homes and shop the Marketplace. Parking will be available on Bent Tree Drive, and a shuttle run to the event location.
