McNair, M. Stephen Jr.

M. Stephen McNair, Jr. is an Architectural Historian and Building Plans Examiner for the Vieux Carré Commission with the City of New Orleans. A native of Mobile, he has received a BA in History from The University of Alabama and a Masters Degree in Historic Preservation from the Tulane School of Architecture.
Areas of expertise include the history and architecture of the Southern United States, particularly Mobile, Charleston, and New Orleans. During Hurricane Katrina, Stephen evacuated to Little Rock Arkansas where he worked as an archivist and policy researcher at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum.
Locally Stephen is a member of the Advocacy Committee for the Preservation Resource Center and serves as the Government Liaison for French Quarter Citizens and the Vieux Carré Property Owners, Residents, and Associates (VCPORA). He also represents the Vieux Carré Commission on the City Planning Commission Planning Advisory Committee.
Stephen serves as a contributing author and participates in TV interviews for WWL TV. His monthly "Historic Buildings" series runs on their web site with corresponding interviews on the WWL Morning Show. These articles and news segments focus on the French Quarter in order to bring awareness to some of the lesser known and more fascinating buildings in the district.
