Cherokee County has 10 new members of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), officials announced.

On September 13, the last CERT class of 2008 completed a disaster simulation drill which allowed them to practice their newly acquired CERT skills learned through training provided by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Management, officials said.

CERT training is offered free of charge to citizens, age 15 and over, who live or work in Cherokee County.

CERT members attend a four week course which includes several different training topics. Each class is presented by instructors skilled in the particular topic of the class.

Future CERT classes will be scheduled during the first quarter of 2009.
