Boston
While attending the Traditional Builders Conference we learned about plaster, wood rot, and hand made terracotta tiles, encaustic tiles, forged iron and a myriad of restoration tools and techniques. There were numerous conservators of buildings from domestic architecture to grand mansions and Cathedrals as well as other Iconic structures. Any inquiry concerning preservation of something manmade most likely While in Boston we were the guests of the Liberty Hotel…an 1850’ granite jail which through adaptive reuse has been brilliantly transformed into a luxury hotel! The attention to detail and courteous staff eased the tensions of the day. Guest rooms are marvelous with abundant amenities. Clink, an urban restaurant and bar has a scrumptious fare. Clink is the Hot Spot for the trendy after five Boston crowd and a great place to people watch.
Union Oyster House
Among it’s collection of firsts……..Joe Milano, president of the Union Oyster House is proud to share his love of this establishment and the role it has played in the history of America and Boston particularly. Established in 1826 this is the oldest continually operating restaurant in the United States. This institution is a Treasure Trove of historic facts, events and notable clientele from the earliest days of the country up to the present with each offering more fascinating than the other. Joe gave us a fabulous personal tour of this amassed group of buildings which also houses a substantial collection of original commissioned paintings depicting Boston’s and the Union Oyster House history. We hung on his every word! Treated like American Royalty, the evening culminated as guests of the Union Oyster House with Joe personally selecting John Kennedy’s booth for us as an unforgettable and delicious dining experience.
